12th Annual Tree Sale

For the 12th year in a row, Branch Out Burlington! is offering bare-root trees at affordable prices. These trees are generally between 5-6 feet and branched, but check the descriptions below for a specific tree size on arrival. Please check your zone in the zone hardiness map provided in the menu on the right before purchasing a tree. We always sell out early, so place your order soon.

Autumn Radiance Maple  – Acer rubrum ‘Autumn Radiance’
Spectacular red fall color two weeks earlier than other maples. A native species. Strong branching structure. Great shade tree, or plant in a row for startling effect! drought tolerant. Good alternative for planting under green or white ash trees.  Full sun.  Grows to a height of 50 feet and a width of 40 feet.   Zone 4. 6 ft. Price $58.00




River Birch – Betula nigra DuraHeat
Easily grown in full sun to part shade. A native species. Good alternative for underplanting green or white ash trees.  River birch is perhaps the most culturally adaptable and this variety has improved tolerance to heat Prefers moist, acidic, fertile soils including semi-aquatic conditions, but also tolerates drier soils. Grows to a height of 30–40 feet and a width of 25–35 feet. Zones 4-9. 6 ft. Price $58.00




Common Hackberry  – Celtis occidentalis   
Excellent replacement for ash, very tough attractive tree.  A native species.  Rounded open form.  Moderate to rapid grower.  Elm-like foliage.  Distinct warty, grey bark.  Very hardy, tolerates dry, alkaline or acidic soils clay soils and windy conditions.  Purple berries attract birds!  Full Sun. Grows to a height of 30-40 feet and a width of 30 feet.  Zones 3-9.   6 ft.  Price $58.00




Coralburst® Crabapple  – Malus ‘Coralcole’ 
Perfect for smaller spaces, compact, rounded crab. Among the first to bloom in spring. Coral color flower buds open to a showy semi-double pink flower followed by red-orange ½” berries. Resistant to scab, tolerates poor soil. Full sun. Grows to a height of 8-10 feet and a width of 12-15 feet.  A good pollinator for the Liberty Apple.  Zones 3-8.  5 ft.  Price $58.00




Miss Kim Lilac – Syringa patula ‘Miss Kim’  
Fragrant lilac – pink flowers bloom late after other lilacs have finished.  Great choice for small spaces.  Burgundy red fall color.  Prefers moist well drained soil.  Will adapt to dry periods.  Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.  Full sun.  Grows to a height of 6-7 feet  and a spread of 5-6 feet.   Zones 3-8. 5 ft.   Price $58.00




Lapin Cherry – Prunus avium ‘Lapin’ 
A big, beautiful dark mahogany red cherry. These are some of the largest and juiciest cherries that grow on trees. The sweet taste is wonderful for baking and cooking. Highly resistant to browning. Blooms late May, ripening late July to August. Prolific producer of cherries. Grows to a height of 15-20 feet.  Zones 4-8. 6 ft. Price $58.00.




Thornless Cockspur Hawthorne – Crataegus crus-galli var inermis
Thornless Cockspur Hawthorn (a native species)  is covered in stunning clusters of white flowers in mid spring. Great accent tree which features horizontally-tiered branches, the glossy forest green leaves turn a striking red/orange in the fall. The fruits are showy red in abundance from early fall, right through to late winter, attracting birds. Grows to a height of 25 feet and spread of 25 feet.  Zones 3-7.  5 ft.   Price $58.00




Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry  – Amelanchier x grandiflora ‘Autumn Brilliance’
Graceful tree for small spaces. Beautiful white flowers in early spring, followed by small red-purple edible fruit in summer. Bright red fall color. Fast growing and heavy branching. Reaches mature size early. Birds will thank you! Plant in full sun to part shade.  Grows to a height of 20-25 feet and a width of 15-20 feet.  Zones 4-9. 6 ft. Price $58.00.




Liberty Apple – Malus ‘Liberty’
Red skin. High quality eating and cooking apple. Flesh crisp, juicy and sprightly. Early heavy bearer. Scab free and highly disease resistant. Requires a nearby pollinator of another apple or crab tree. Coralburst Crab also makes a good pollinator. Grows to a height of 30-35 ft and a width of 20 ft.  Zones 5-8. 6 ft.  Price: $58.00




Tree Gator
This is a slow release watering system for trees. It delivers 20 gallons of water directly to the roots of a newly planted tree with no run-off or evaporation, saving time, money, water and effort, while properly and efficiently watering your new tree.
